The ZOO in Bratislava with the number of breeding animals rising up to 1000 is the one of the biggest ZOOs in Slovakia.

Attempts to develop a zoological garden in Bratislava stretches far back, while the first official considerations and discussions are dated back to 1948. It was decided to build up the Zoo in Mlynská dolina covering 96 ha, located in a pleasant environment of leafy forests, meadows and creek. The ceremonial opening of the ZOO took place in 1960. As one of the first ZOOs in Europe, the ZOO in Bratislava was successful in breeding lynx which has become its symbol. The biggest success of the ZOO is participating in 17 European breeding programs for endangered animals and keeping the European Breeding Book of Capra ibex nubiana. You can also see white lions and tigers.
