Zlatá Koruna (Golden Crown) Monastery

This fortified Cistercian Monastery, founded in 1263 by King Přemysl Otakar II.


In a picturesque meander of the river Vltava, was named after a gift of a French king – a thorn from the Christ´s crown. The main part of the monastery is a courtyard surrounded by a cloister with the adjoining chapter hall, a refectory and the Church of the Ascension of the Virgin Mary with the Chapel of the Guardian Angels. The monastery is open to the public and people can also visit a permanent exhibition of the South-Bohemian literature.
