South from Jihlava lays a town called Třešť, was founded during the colonization of the Czech-Moravian highlands in the 13th century at the crossroad of two historical trade routes.

The Empire jewish synagogue which was rebuilt after the fire in 1824 and Jewish cemetery are important reminders of the Jewish community in Třešť. In 1872 the first town school in Moravia was founded in Třešť. The oldest historical monument of the town is a gothic parish church of St. Martin, placed near the rennaisance castle (the former aristocrat mansion) nowadays serves as a hotel. Třešť is a large unique and nation-wide significant locality of Christmas crib making in the Czech Republic, it is represented by a large number of Christmas crib makers and creating authors. Every year throughout all Christmas time (from 24th December till 2nd February), Nativity scenes created by our local artists is accessible for the general public. This is possible either at the private houses where the creators live or at the local branch of the Highland Museum.
