Kašperk was founded in 1356 by Czech King and Roman Emperor Charles IV in order to protect the borderline between Bohemia and Bavaria and to defend "the Golden Route".


The castle has changed many owners, in 1616 the nearby town of Kašperské Hory bought the already-derelict castle and it has owned it up to now. The castle had been in reconstruction up to the 1968. The castle tower is a view-tower now.
