The Cistercian Monastery was founded in 1259 by Petr Vok from Rožmberk and it belongs to the most beautiful and most preserved monasteries in the Czech Republic, because it is preserved almost in its original state. Since 1991, the monastery is the property of the Cistercian friary. Visitors can admire the Church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary with Gothic and Baroque fittings, a chapter hall, a picture gallery with a collection of precious art works and a library containing about 70 000 volumes – the third biggest library in the Czech Republic.
