The Gothic castle and Renaissance chateau, the second biggest castle complex in the Czech Republic, are located on a rocky promontory above Vltava river.
Among the most famous and beautiful parts of the castle belongs, besides its historical interiors, a garden with the Mantle bridge, a huge tower with a Renaissance helmet and a lookout gallery, the Eggenberg Hall with a golden carriage, a remarkable masquerade hall or a unique chateau theatre – the only Baroque theatre in Europe preserved in its original state including decorations and costumes. Both the castle and the chateau as well as the town are listed in the UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage Register.
