The international automobile federation FIA tested in 2009 the public transport system in 23 European cities.
Prague has the fourth best public transport in Europe, Better is only Munich, Helsinki und Vienna.

The Prague metro system began operating on 9 May 1974. Today there are 53 stations in total connected by 54 kilometres of underground railways. The metro comprises three lines:
line C - red (Háje - Ládví) line B - yellow (Černý Most - Zličín) line A - green (Dejvická - Skalka)
There are 3 transfer stations from one line to another: Florenc (lines C and B), Můstek (lines A and B) and Muzeum (lines A and C).

The first tram line was opened in Prague in 1875, those times there were horsecar trams. The Prague tram system today consists of 140 kilometres of track, 533 km of the total route length and 628 stops. The system includes 26 day lines and 9 night lines and enables passengers comfortable transportation to any desired location of Prague.

The first buses in Prague were experimentally operated in 1908 from the Lesser Town Square to Pohorelec, but due to unreliable technology at the time it was declared a failure after short time. Regular service was started on 20 June 1925, at the beginning from the outskirts to the tram lines. Nowadays there are 180 day lines and 16 night bus lines in the city with a total route length of 2 197,7 km and 2510 stops. |
