Prague's best...
Today I continue telling you stories about myself, especially about my most… Honestly saying, many people consider me to be the most beaufitul, interesting, inspiring place in the world. I offer my guests not only a great numer of sights, but also a hundred of spires and marvellous views from the hills and towers, views of my palaces, historical houses, streets, parks and gardens. I might be the most chanted and prized city of all. Many tourists say I’m a mystical place. Come to judge by yourself…
If you seek to visit not only the notoriously known sights, but also some less known treasures, which are the most… so follow my story, I’ll give you some unusual travel tips.
Lets first visit the Wallenstein garden (Valdštejnská zahrada), which is the oldest baroque garden in Prague. The palace complex consists of a garden, a riding-hall and the palace building. It is one of the most notable structures of the early Baroque period. The palace was built in the years 1623-1630 by one of the most powerful aristocrates in Czech lands of the period – Albrecht Wenceslas Eusebius of Valdstejn – and was supposed to become even more glamorous than the Prague castle itself (it certainly is very big, about 340m long and 172m wide). The palace nowadays serves as the seat of the Senate of the Czech republic.
On your walking tour you can have a beer in the oldest brewery in Prague - U Fleku. It is a large pub, restaurant and micro-brewery all rolled into one. It is referred to be the single brewery in Europe with the tradition of brewing older than 500 years. For coffee and cake you can drop in the Prague’s oldest coffee house Slavie. Slavie was opened in Prague in 1881, and since then many famous artists became its regular customers. The aroma of fresh coffee brewing is really heavenly here.
After walking through the Charles bridge you can stroll into a small street without a name, which is significant due to its width- 0,5 m. There are pedestrian lights which regulate the traffic. The smallest house in terms of width is the hotel Clementin in Seminárska street, which measures olny 3,28 m. It makes the house to be the most narrow preserved building in Prague..
I shall probably mention also the biggest and longest buildings in my premises. The longest Baroque building in Prague is Černínský palace. Its builder was Humprecht Jan count of Czernin of Chudenice. Main part of the building realization passed during 1669-1682 according to design by Francesco Caratti. Nowadays it serves the seat of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic and palace is considered one of the gems of the Prague Baroque architecture.
According to the Guinness Book of Records the Prague Castle with its total area of 7,28 ha is the largest medieval castle in the world. Its pearl is the Gothic St. Vitus Cathedral – the spiritual symbol of the Czech state, with a tomb of Czech Kings.
If you get fascinated by the great places, I can add some more tips. Visit the Charles square (Karlovo náměstí), which is 539 m long and 166 m wide. That makes it to be the biggest one in Prague and the whole Czech Republic.
My probably smallest building is the St.Longin Rotunda. At the same time it is one of the only three oldest Romanesque rotundas, preserved in Prague.
Are you interested in the modern buildings? So have a look at the skyscraper City Tower, the tallest one in the Czech Republic with 109 m in height. If you would like to enjoy my panorama from high above, visit the restaurant at the 27th floor.
I have proposed you some of my most… significant, but not enough visited places of interest. But you know… how many people, so many views. So you’d better visit Prague by yourself in order to find your most fascinating signt.
