Franciscan garden

Franciscan garden is a lovely public garden. This rather small garden with only 0,6 ha is very famous among Praguers, and also among tourists, as it is an oasis of calm, situated just few steps from Wenceslas Square. In the middle of the park you can see a folly with herbal beds around it. Several paths with benches alongside connect the three entrances, the paths are bordered by the yew hedge.

The garden is designed in the French style still preserving some features of early Baroque. There are many trees, pretty flowerbeds and rose bushes there. You can see two interesting fountains in the garden: boy with shell and three fairytail women on the pedestal.

The garden is open daily, it gets closed only for the night time (in summer from 22.00-7.00)

Franciscan garden was built in 1348 during the reconstruction of New Town near the Church of Virgin Mary Snow, that you can admire from the hotel windows. The Frantiscans, who got the garden into their custody in 1604, grew flowers, trees and spices there. Nowadays children can play on the nearby sandpit or on the see-saw. Adults can relax here and enjoy the green area in the centre of Prague.
